Most Recent Story: New Assistant Coach
After the departure of Assistant Coach Kathleen Schanne, who left Oxford for the beautiful and friendly (?) confines of Kent State, where she will be Head Coach of the Golden Flashes’ field hockey team, the RedHawks were short a staff member. That vacancy has been filled with the hiring of Katie Kanara from St. Louis University.
Kanara was at SLU for one year, serving as the goaltender coach and defensive coordinator before being promoted to interim head coach halfway through the season. Seven of her players earned postseason accolades, including goaltender Amy Wasserman, who was named first team all-conference. Kanara herself has plenty of experience with the defense. In 2000, she was a reserve goaltender for Old Dominion’s national championship team. After transferring to Indiana University the next season, she went on to set school records for victories in a season and goals against average in her senior campaign, and she was named to the Big Ten all-tournament team.
Defense isn’t Kanara’s only focus, though. She also emphasizes academics, which should make her a fine fit at Miami. Eleven members of her Billikens squad were named to the NHFCA Academic All-American team, and Kanara herself made the team three times... [Read the entire story]
