Just sayin'. I am a bit bored waiting for my car to get out of the shop. |
Hmm I'm not latin american, but I am a native spanish and portuguese speaker... I learned both at the same time I did english and was raised in south america... so NYAH NYAH ! |

Don't go overboard, just limit your use of google's translation functions, they don't do your wit justice.

-- 35 current members seems a bit low for membership. What is the average for a fraternity at Miami? Also, 22 of them were sophomores. I assume this chapter was having issues retaining members? If 30% were given alumni status in January, that would mean 50 total? Still seems a bit low.
|
Because you haven't gotten an answer to this question I will answer it. In January before the live-in advisor was brought in all of the seniors were given alumni status plus those directly involved with the infractions which basically meant all that was left in the chapter were sophomores and juniors because the freshman have not and will not be initiated. |

| I don't think hazing should be tolerated and even one incident of that is one too many. If there was drug activity going on they should probably be glad if they didn't get kicked out of school or aren't facing criminal charges. They haven't exactly represented the university much less their fraternity very well. |

"That is the same attitude that explains why to this day Miami has a such a pathetic record at racial diversity." Give the racial and ethnic "diversity"
a rest, will you? How about some diversity of thought and ideas for a change?
"I live in Westchester County, north of NYC and there are still country and yacht clubs that refuse to diversify. When I was a NY Post reporter I enjoyed doing stories on places like that." I'll bet you did and probably called it "journalism". |

Miami has been trying since the 80's and they still survive. When I was doing the housing and fire inspections for the City, I got more than one hint from Miami folks that they would like to see houses closed. _________________ "Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory." -- George S. And if violence did break out, the court officers would not be total douchebags like in the Bronx County Courthouse and laugh, they would do something about it. |

My Greek experience was very similar to that of MiamiMAC. Our chapter was very diverse by Miami standards. Excluding pledges due to ethnicity or religion was unthinkable for us in the early 90s. I also have brothers who have since come out of the closet and they are still welcomed back. Personally I am glad Sigma Chi is being shuttered. As an undergrad they picked fights with my chapter without provocation and repeatedly tried to steal stuff from our house. Many other houses resented the lack of oversight they flaunted as an alpha chapter. One would think they would be watched closely but the opposite was true. Since the late 90s they have repeatedly embarrassed the Miami Greek system. They needlessly strung out one of my best friends during rush and cut him the last night. He was crushed and I will never forgive them for this. Good riddance! _________________ Long Live Mac & Joe's! |

Also there is NO WAY Miami will kill the Greek system anytime soon. All five alpha nationals collectively wield enough power to successfully fight this. It is true that a disproportionately high amount of alumni donations come from Greeks. The university cannot and will not jeopardize this. Donations were hurt enough due to the mascot change and I don't think the university can afford to anger alumni more than they already have. while the Greek system has shrunk to a third of the student body from the nearly 50% in the early 90s, it is still a defining element of Miami culture - like it or not - and most students come here knowing and accepting this. _________________ Long Live Mac & Joe's! |
