Everything RedHawkBandMan said is right on the money. Those on this board who know me personally (and maybe even some who don't) will tell you that I rarely drink, ever. And yet, GBD was one of my favorite days on the college calendar each year. Would I drink on GBD? Sure. But college students can drink at any moment of any day, so there has to be more to it than just the booze to make it such a special event. _________________ "We will shoot for perfection... but nobody's perfect. Please tell me you are not talking about GBD. Or that you are some crotchety old man who hates everything that happened after 1975 |
Think you just answered my question as to why my years attending Miami were honestly close to the worst time of my life. If you have to drink in order to have fun, that is pathetic. I am 28 years old so no I am not an old man by most people's definition. Just bitter because my Miami experience was so awful. I just attended the wrong school. It ruined my life in more ways than one. Five years after graduation is proof of that with no job, no friends to really speak of, went through all kinds of humiliation my senior year at Miami. I went to Miami because as a townie I was afraid to leave Oxford.I guess I am wasting my breathe talking to people who love every aspect of this school for some odd reason. |
Just curious, but if you hate Miami so much then why do you spend time following their sports teams? |
I had some really good mentors as I was growing up in Oxford who were Miami Student-Athletes. I just got hooked I guess.I really enjoy Miami football, basketball, and occassionally a baseball game. The college degree I earned has done nothing to help my life. Friendships from college are non-existent. I have really one person from college that I would consider a friend. _________________ LETS GO REDHAWKS |

You need to take responsibility for your situation in life rather than blaming it all on Miami. It was your fear that made you go to Miami, not Miami kidnapping you off the streets and forcing to enroll. And it appears to be your fear that made you stay, rather than transfer to a school that would have been a better fit. And you've been out of college for five years now. If you haven't found a job in five years, I'm truly sorry for you, but by this point that undoubtedly has far more to do with how you interview and present yourself than it does with where you went to college.
Making mistakes is a part of life, but so is accepting responsibility for those mistakes and moving on from them. For you, it certainly seems going to Miami was a mistake. But rather than working to correct that mistake (e.g., by transferring when you had the chance) or working to move on from that mistake (e.g., by thinking of your time at Miami as an obstacle you've successfully gotten past -- after all, you did get a degree), you've spent five years blaming Miami for your mistake.
I really wish you the best going forward, and hope you're able to find rewarding work soon. But I worry that you won't until you accept responsibility for the decisions you've made. _________________ "Psycho was low on talent. Psycho was low on athleticism. | In my 6 years at Miami, I was only in Oxford for one GBD. For the other 5 years I was at the Q in Cleveland. I preferred drinking an adult beverage while watching basketball and cheering on the RedHawks instead of dodging stumbling co-eds on High Street or crowding into a bar. But to each his own - I know a lot of people really enjoyed it, and I didn't have a bad time my last year in Oxford. I do think a lot of the media coverage and intense commercialization (get your 30 different kinds of GBD shirts here!) is kind of pointless. In the end it's all about having a good time. |

And, for the record, I did enjoy a few green beers with my girlfriend last night.
Sadly, Ralph's only carried Natty Light in 30 packs, and there was no way I was going to buy more than 6. So Coors Light it was. _________________ "Psycho was low on talent. Psycho was low on athleticism. Psycho can play on my team any day. Psycho has the biggest heart of any player I have seen."

The scariest moment of my life was losing my dad at a Ralph's at age 5.
I was a Gelson's and Albertson's guy after that. Those still around? |

Yes...there are Albertson's in West Ventura County...Gelson's is in LA, Orange, Santa Barbara, and East Ventura Counties; they must not cater to us common folk west of the Conejo grade. _________________ MIAMI. PRAYER. ANSWERED! -- Steve Baker 12/3/2010

Looks like everyone behaved themselves, good to hear. |

Wasn't last year 2011 or am I trapped in some sort of space-time warp? |

Isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Luke12 - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can think whatever you want about MU/GBD, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

You're not walking out on this one mister. No more GBD/MU events for you to go to. I'm going to call the national office of Green Beer. I'm going to revoke your Green Beer charter! And if you screw up once more, one more! I'm gonna kick you out of the bars on GBD for forever!
