The buyout clause with the MAC says Temple has to give 2 years notice and pay 2.5 million. If Temple needs to get out right away to give the Big East 8 teams for next year to maintain their TV contracts, I would think the MAC can demand more money/concessions from Temple in order to let them go immediately. |
I mentioned this before, but isn't there also a clause that says if Temple leaves, the MAC can boot UMass, no questions asked? _________________ Most Livable City... |

(Keep in mind that Temple was originally dropped not just for being bad, but because they didn't spend enough money on football.) I'm not sure what Bates could have been done differently, with the exception of his treatment of men's basketball. Not hire Shane Montgomery in the first place? Knowing what we know now, that seems like a good idea, but knowing what we knew then, he was certainly a reasonable choice for the job. Dismiss Shane earlier? The season before he resigned, he took Miami to the MAC title game. I just don't get what wasn't taken advantage of. |
i think the critical error was when we passed on conf-usa the second time....if you're drinking the kool aid and believing the words brad used to explain the why miami passed, you would have heard that it wasnt a good fit academically and there was a $1.5M entrance fee....over the years i've learned to read through his words because most time he's a better spin doctor than the white house press secretary....
he couldn't muster the support of the board of trustees or the president....are their academics that much lower than kent or akron or emu, etc? dont think so....
joining conf-usa would have elevated our competition, football and basketball....it would have elevated our exposure....it would have positioned us for a couple years of tv revenue that was much better than the mac deal....we would have earned back that $1.5M easily.... |
Was there an invite on the table? I always thought it was just rumor and hope. |
