According to this morning's Enquirer, Brad Bates gets a bonus well in excess of $300,000 per year in addition to his base salary. Does anyone know the criteria for achieving this bonus? It's certainly not based on winning or attendance figures.

Pales in comparison to the Vandy AD position....who even gets a full million more in base pay than the second place AD position at Florida. Vandy's AD makes in the 2.5 million range.

The athletic department at Vandy is a separate entity from the University isn't it? That may have something to do with why its out of whack, they're playing be different rules

It's based on how much money he saves from the mens basketball program.

It may or may not be. We have no idea of the relevant performance metrics.

This is a 20 million dollar+, publicly-accountable organization he is running. It is a high-profile role with many moving parts.

I'm not defending BB or his performance. I just don't think that is out of line for the scope of the role.

Remember, football and mens' basketball may be the big programs but they aren't the only programs in Miami's athletic department.

And you are talking about a football program that last year won the league and its bowl game. Not much more could have been asked of the hippie herb-smoking university program at the university.

Basketball is consistently a top league program, though not as dominant as we all would like.

And hockey is #1 in the country right now in pre-season rankings, isn't it?

Not to mention the other sports that have done well under the radar.

Again, I'm not defending BB although it may sound as if I am. Just adding some perspective. We're all angry about how the football team is playing right now and there are deep concerns for the program, but Miami is certainly not failing at sports, especially as compared against schools with our resources.

Miami’s Brad Bates at $193,800 plus $336,380 in bonuses.

per the USA Today database the $336,380 is the MAX bonus.

What we don't know is whether or not B2 reaches the goals to trigger the bonuses each year. The way I read the aforementioned is that he has the potential to earn over $330k in bonuses that are built into his contract as incentives.

I'm with Nick. It's a mistake to assume he's getting his max possible bonus each year.

Bates was spotted at Penn Station in NYC today. Any ideas as to why he was there? Visiting Yanks?

Just for the record, I wasn't kidding about Bates being in NYC. Is it normal for him to just travel around like that? I know he has a lot of responsibilities, but what would take him to NYC?

I heard B2 was craving NY style pizza.
Does it really matter why?
This guy has been the best AD we have had in a long long time.
I hope he stays around much longer.
