Its that Raisin Bowl team from 1986 that ruined it for the class of '90. Damn you Terry Morris! _________________ "I am attempting to build a nemonic memory circuit, with stone knives and bearskins."

Good work, d-day! Give yourself a raise.
It is amazing how quickly we turned everything around in the early 90s. Obviously, there was coaching turnover in the 3 sports all at about the same time. We made some great hires.
Also, I would suggest archiving this thread to save d-day's work for future generations. _________________ And the days that I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations

For basketball in the '88-'89 season, did you use the record as the games were played, or the record after Miami forfeited all but like 3 games due to an ineligible player? _________________ He's a demon on wheels... |

Yes, however I just noticed that you guys are class of 1990 and class of 1991 was actually the worst, but 1990 wasn't far behind. _________________ "Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end." |

I used what was in the Miami Media Guide, which was 5 wins & 23 losses - I just looked at the guide, and Miami forfited 8 wins, so the actual wins & losses would have been 13 wins & 15 losses.
I just checked - 1987 thru 1990/91 was still the worst 4 year period. _________________ "Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end." |

Cool, thanks. I was just wondering.
While my class of '89 deservedly takes home 4th-worst place, it really felt like 2 different eras: Frosh and soph years yielded 2 very good football teams, and a Ron Harper led NCAA Tournament hoops team. While my Junior and Senior years were just crap.
Oh, and see if anyone can beat my Senior year as the biggest pile of poo:
Football: 0-10-1
Basketball: 5-23 (yeah, there were forfeits)
Hockey: 8-24
Total: 13-57-1 19% _________________ He's a demon on wheels... |

Basketball
fall of 1986 13 wins 15 losses
fall of 1987 9 wins 18 losses
fall of 1988 5 wins 23 losses
fall of 1989 14 wins 15 losses
41 wins 71 losses = 36.6%

Class of 1990. After the win against LSU early in the 1986 football season, it was all downhill. And the basketball really was that bad those 4 years. Actually saw people asleep in Millett on more than one Saturday afternoon. _________________ Hey sUCks grad. I ordered it Biggie Sized. |

Those of us still around here from the classes of '90 and '91 really deserve some kind of commendation for our persistence. I was a kid during the 1988-90 seasons. That 1989 should have won 5-6 games, lost some games in heartbreak fashion. Toledo game I remember most, one play away from winning and they throw a TD pass with no time left. BG game was great- tearing down those goal posts, big back Alexander running for 250yds or something like that. _________________ Timothy Hillebrand |

To me, the best era in Miami football was the period from 1973-1975. Add in 1972 and that's the best four years in my opinion.
!972: 7-3 overall, 3-3 in the MAC. Wins on the road against OU, So. Carolina and UC gave an indication of what might be coming down the road.
1973: 11-0, 5-0 in the MAC. Pure perfection Wins at Purdue and again again at So. Carolina...plus an impressive Bowl win against Florida. Team had a toughness and a real chip on their shoulder.
1974: 10-0-1, 5-0 in the MAC. A tie at Purdue marred pure perfection again. We won at Kentucky and beat a good Georgia team in the Tangerine Bowl.
1975: 11-1, 6-0 in the MAC. We lost 14-13 against Michigan State and had several chances to beat the Spartans...Missed FGs as I recall did us in. We did beat Purdue on the road and swept the conference including a 4th consecutive W against UC during this streak. We beat So. Carolina (again) in the Tangerine Bowl.
I had the pleasure to watch many of these games during this stretch and the Redskins has a special attitude and will to win that was very evident. At times, we lacked a strong 2-deep but those kids who did play ended up laying it all on the line every week. We were a team to be feared and reckoned with.
As an aside, we may again be at the doorstep of a dominating period. We have a solid nucleus this year, a couple of great recruiting years...now, all we have to do is develop the dominating attitude...which, in my opinion, likely will be the difference maker. We'll get a great insight into where we are when we play Missouri to open the season...stay tuned. _________________ Miami University---4 years that changed my life for the better. |
