Not really a local issue but I did not know where to post...
I heard 700wlw @ 3:00 and Darryl Parks the program director said Eddie Fingers is no longer with the station and will be greatly missed. Sounds like some sort of company policy violation (DUI?). Anybody know?

I can't imagine a DUI is a fireable offense for a radio guy. Especially one who goes by Eddie Fingers. |

Clear Channel is known for having an extreme employee conduct policy, especialyl for on-air hosts, as they are deemed to be "celebrities". I'm just specualting about the DUI.
Fingers has been a radio host in Dayton and Cincinanti for probably 30+ years.

I can't imagine Eddie would leave on his own. That show was nails. Best in the region.
He was on just yesterday. Now he's canned and the show is done imo.

People may have thought it was a prank because there have been numerous radio personalities on 700 et. al over the years that have been "fired" or "suspended" but miraculously come back.
It's been going on at least since the 1980's.
One aspect I do find odd is that, according to the Enquirer article, this was WLW's No. 1 show and this happened.

It sucked long before Fingers left. All Tracey does is flaunt his relationship with the Reds while talking about nothing.

My dad is a rather devoted Cunningham listener, and regularly has him on in the afternoon at work. In five years of working for dad off and on, I think I heard him get fired and/or suspended on-air, by nameless ClearChannel execs who just happened to call in, around 10 times.
EDIT: obviously, it appears this incident isn't a prank, but in light of WLW's history, I don't think it's an unreasonable suspcion to have at first.

If it's a prank, then they did a wonderful job setting it all up.
Notice that Eddie hasn't said a peep about this, not even a confirmation.
If he was fired/quit/whatever, then it's a shame. |

Maybe I'm just getting too old -- I was a big Fingers fan when he was on WEBN back in the day -- but I found the Tracy/Eddie show to be just so much drivel. Same silly banter every day. I tuned in when it was time for a traffic report if I was driving; otherwise stayed away from WLW afternoons for the past year.

For the amount of hate I have seen across the 'net for the show that was previously Eddie's, it was the #1 ranked show in Cincinnati for its timeslot.
Why so, you ask? For the same reason Howard Stern dominated the ratings when he was on regular radio: People wanted to know what he was going to say next. |

Does this crap really get a Howard Stern response, that people who hate them listen more than those that love him? It doesn't get that from me, I just turn the dial, I wish that I could have some kind of parental control on my car radio that would prevent me from accidentally switching to 700 between 3 and 6. I can tell you what Tracy is going to say next, "How much do you weigh...", "Richard lives in Indian Hill...", "Do you live in Norwood"...
Eddie was the only redeeming thing about that show. I could actually stand to listen to it when Tracy was on vacation. |
