Shillito's Rike's, IIRC (though they merged with Lazarus around 1986 or so). |

Yup. And someone will get a penny for correctly guessing what it was before that. |

Original DQ was where the west entrance to Follett's is now. They then moved to Skipper's location before relocating, foolishly, out on College Corner Pike. A moved that spelled their doom.
Near as I can remember, Tony's Pizza once occupied the building in question before their demise and then Shillito's/Lazarus with the apartments upstairs.
FYI, the Ozzie's/Balcony building is down and being cleaned up and next on the demo block will be the current DuBois bookstore location. This is particularly saddening to me as this is the building that housed WOXY radio when I first started in the business in 1978. At that time, Burger Chef was located upstairs, while a sporting goods store, Horizon Records and WOXY we're located downstairs. |

 | I was actually expecting a "hookers" joke, but you got me. What I recall looked more like HUMAN eyes, complete with eye lashes. |

Exactly right, Bake. Tony's Pizza was the original business in the "Lazarus" building. Nice pizza if you didn't mind sopping grease off with napkins first; best jukebox in town for the high school crowd. I still have eerie memories of the Jimmy Castor Bunch playing Troglodyte. That's a song worth remembering... but not for this long.
WOXR moved from the Beasley's Bakery building (where Tom Hicks' Oxford Opticians is today) to the space below BurgerChef when the pet store closed up. That same space was previously Oxford Confectionary Shoppe, but that's as far back as I can remember. In the front was the Sports Center, relocated to the building when Jack's Corner was demolished on the corner of High and Main. Bought my first 10-speed bike from them. |

There was also a video arcade there before Shillito's/Lazarus.
I can't believe more people don't remember that. |

| Bake said DQ was the west entrance to Folletts - that jogged my memory - THAT's where I remember it being, I knew it was along there somewhere. I remember too going to Burger Chef upstairs where DuBois is located... I only ate at the finest dining establisments when I was young. |

Just to add to the Oxford trivia fun, can anyone remember the first business housed in the Balcony/Ozzie's building? How about the 2nd? |
