Jake is rated a 74 and #96 OT by Scout/ESPN. Great news to have his talent coming to Oxford. Welcome!

How is the overall recruiting effort for next year shaping up?

Miami is putting together another very solid class. Getting some quality lineman which will be very important to this class on both sides of the ball and some good skill position players as well.

Duane Long from Ohio High has Jake Brandt listed as the #21 player in Ohio:

21. **** Jake Brandt (6-6, 260, DT/OL; Bexley)

Quote:
I just saw this kid recently. That is a big surprise. It is unusual for a player of this caliber to be out there and I do not find him until this late in the process. The only question about Brandt is where is he going to play in college. He is a high school defensive end but I don’t see the explosion or athleticism to play there in college, and he is going to get a lot bigger. He is a lanky 260 lbs. He has the frame to go over 300 lbs. I think he could be a defensive tackle but where he stands out to me is as an offensive lineman. He moves very well. He is a fluid athlete for such a big kid and has great feet. He shows an impressive punch, sometimes taking players off their feet with it. In run blocking he uses it to knock his man off balance, get lower and drive him off the ball. One of the defining things about this class is the number of two-way tackles, players that could line up on either side of the ball in college. Brandt falls into that category but he is such a good looking tackle, he plays left tackle in high school, that I would not waste time messing around with him on defense. Let him get as many reps as possible as a left tackle. Of the two-way tackles, Adam Bellamy is the only other one that would be a college offensive tackle. Bexley is off the beaten recruiting path so schools have not found their way to Jake Brandt but that will change very soon

FWIW, Cincinnati pulled their offer to Brandt earlier in the process. There was an article on one of the the Rivals pay sites in September discussing that. The reason for pulling the offer was that after over 20 commitments they ran out of room on the o-line in their class. That's the other reason I'm a little skeptical of that post stating that they may have offered Anevski.

can anyone verify this?

It would be disappointing if he decommitted without even waiting to see who the new coach was.

Well he could switch back to us after the new HC is announced as verbals aren't binding.

Akron is going after commits from MAC schools that lost their HC's very aggressively. They stole 4-star safety Jermaine Robinson from Toledo too. Of course Robinson is not the best student and it could be that he didn't like it when new UT coach Tim Beckman told him all Toledo football players will be sitting in the first two rows of all of their classes from now on. Finally Toledo has a coach that wants discipline and academics to be a part of the program.

I've also heard that Brandt is having a little trouble in the classroom, so he probably fits in Akron's class better than Miami's. Who knows if he would have ever qualified at Miami.

I hope he hasn't backed out of his commitment. I hope we get him to Miami. I hope he has enough confidence in himself that he can get his grades and/or his ACT score up (if he even needs to do so). I hope he wants the kind of education and college experience he'll get at Miami, both on and off the field. I hope he looks at the bigger picture. And I hope the team is doing more than just hoping we keep this player and all our other verbals!

who knows...maybe the new HC will be glad to have that scholarship available.

Brad spoke with each recruit and informed each that Miami would honor their scholarship offer and for them to be patient because he was going to hit a homerun with the new HC hire.

I have a lot of confidence that the new HC will continue (and perhaps exceed) Miami's recruiting efforts of late.

Too bad we don't know anyone with inside connections that could check this out with Dave Berk at scout.com, ya know Spanks?

I hope they're right and the other guys are wrong. 'Soft Verbal' is better than 'De-Commit' in my book. Either way; Jake still has a week to ensure success and prosperity on and off the field for the rest of his life by signing with Miami. IMHO that is....
