Any hawktalkers going to be in Oxford the weekend of June 11, 12, and 13 for Reunion Weekend? I will be there with Mrs. MUfan for my 10-yr reunion. Please take this opportunity to post if you're going to be there along with what year. It would be fun to meet up with any fellow hawktalkers while we're down in Oxford. Also, any students who are going to be in Oxford then please say so. _________________ "You haven't lived until you've closed down the I-Bar at 4 A.M. AST." - thechuck_2112

I'll be there for my 15th (UGH!). Don't have specific plans except for dinner with a bunch of friends on Friday night. Probably go for a couple of beers afterwards, not sure where. Could possibly be back on Saturday. I'll post details when I get them. _________________ He's a demon on wheels... |

I'm there. Of course, with rare exception, I never leave. _________________ "Psycho was low on talent. Psycho was low on athleticism. Psycho can play on my team any day. Psycho has the biggest heart of any player I have seen."

Bump!
Anyone else care to admit their age by admitting what year you graduated in??? _________________ "You haven't lived until you've closed down the I-Bar at 4 A.M. AST." - thechuck_2112

Class of 1990 here. That means
- I remember when the Shriver Center was referred to as the "Res," didn't have a food court, but did have a bowling alley.
- I still consider the "BSB" the new building on campus.
- I walked to class--uphill both ways in the driving snow. No "Miami Metro" like the softies today. And I liked it.
- I remember a time when the legal drinking age was 19.
- I've conveniently blocked out any and all memories of Miami's football and basketball teams during my tenure. |

Hey, the football team was good in 1986 (at least until their bowl game!).
I'm an '89 grad. Will be at DiPaolo's at 7:30 on Friday, meeting up with 2 of my soph year roommates, and guy who lived right across from me frosh year (in Reid Hall), and their wives (2 of which were '89 Miamians).

I think I'll go uptown this weekend and have a beer at Bash Riprocks...
errr.... Attractions?
um.... Ozzie's?
.... Lottie Moons?
.... Graffiti's?
I know! Have an ice cream at Baskins! oops.
Buy some music at Looney T's! nope? Horizon? hmmmm.
Grab a Chuckburger at 3am and enjoy it under the water tower?
My, how uptown has changed! I'm sure the classes pre-'90 can speak about other long-gone hangouts like Tuffy's, Al and Larry's, the Purity, etc.
Still... can't beat it. |

All right, fellow hawktalkers, I'm heading south out of the tundra towards Oxford for Reunion Weekend. Hope to see some of you there. I'm looking forward to what should be a fun weekend! _________________ "You haven't lived until you've closed down the I-Bar at 4 A.M. AST." - thechuck_2112

So how was the big weekend in Oxford? Is it my understanding that the Saturday evening barbeque was moved to Millett? |

I was only up on Friday and didn't attend any of the planned events, but had a terrific time. Ended the evening by drinking two beers (had to drive home to Cincy that night) in C.J.'s with about a dozen friends from my class, including 3 of my 5 best friends from college. Decent crowds everywhere we went.
Also took my non-Miami girlfriend of 6 months for a quick smooch under the Upham Arch right at midnight as we were heading back to Cincy. _________________ He's a demon on wheels... |

I've been meaning to report on the weekend........just haven't got around to it yet.
Overall, the weekend was a lot of fun! Everything was pretty much moved indoors because of the cicadas, which even without them, a lot of stuff would've been indoors anyways because of on-again/off-again rain.
Unfortunately, due to some late changes in plans at work, my wife couldn't go with me, so I went by myself.
Got into town Friday night, and after going to class party, I went to bed. Tired from a long drive down, and I was planning on running in the R&W Club 5K race on Saturday morning.
Was up by 6:15am on Saturday (I think some members of the Class of '99 were just going to bed), and went down to Millett for the run. Met some really neat people there, including a couple from the Bay area who were there for his 50-yr reunion (they were doing the 3k walk). They told me they were pretty excited about BB coming out to their summer alumni chpater meeting. Ran badly (just over 30 minutes), but I'm just glad I ran because it would've been easy to blow it off without Mrs. MUfan there.
Because of running, I didn't get to attend the morning class BB was having on today's "student-athletes". Looked really interesting.
Class luncheon was fun......Dick Nault was our speaker. Had some interesting things to say about what's different on campus now from 10 years ago.
Went to Co-Op in the afternoon to purchase Wayne Embry's new book......he was there autographing copies. He has huge hands! I guess all pro basketball players do, but they swallowed up my hands when I shook them. Seemed like a personable guy. Also bought my usual stock-up of Miami stuff.
Barbeque was indoors at Millett. Man, you should see the changes there doing in there! New seating, new lighting, new luxury suites!!!!
Anyways, dinner was fun......talked a lot with classmates and such. Afterwards went to BW3's, Skippers, and Bruno's with some people from committee.
Left early on Sunday.......around 8am.
A big "Good Job" to all involved in planning this event. A lot of planning and such, as things went very smoothly from my perspective. You know who you are, so I won't name you, but thanks a lot! _________________ "You haven't lived until you've closed down the I-Bar at 4 A.M. AST." - thechuck_2112

Thanks! I didn't tell her what I was up to. Didn't want to go to the arch unless it was deserted. Just parked the car, grabbed her hand and said "C'mon". Then I told her the story on the way back.
Yeah, I can see it now... "A HawkTalk Wedding". We're not there YET, but quite likely someday. _________________ He's a demon on wheels... |
