IF/When Temple leaves the MAC...does Miami reinstitute the contract it entered into with Temple in January 2005?
BACKGROUND: In 2005, Temple was not affiliated with the MAC and on 1/31/05 Miami announced a 2-game non-conference home/away series with Temple. Miami fulfilled it's end of the bargain by playing at Temple in 2005 (beating the Owls 41-14--Josh Betts was 28-40, 379 yards and 3 TD's; Ryne Robinson had 10 catches for 148 yards while Martin Nance had 6 catches for 96 yards.).
In 2007, Temple joined the MAC as a football-only member. As a result, Miami filled the void on the non-conference schedule created by Temple by replacing the Owls with I-AA Charleston Southern.
As far as I know, Miami never received any compensation from Temple (either in the form of $$$ or home basketball games...).
As such, will Miami have a chance to knock off another Big East (or CUSA/MTNW) team at Yager stadium when Temple leaves the MAC? _________________ Mollautt to Big A HG: "Dude, you need to bow down and kiss our rings. You are talking to giants."

Nick:
I guess it depends upon how the contract was worded. Temple may have an "out" if the K was voided upon their entering another conference. Guess it's up to B2 and the lawyers to figure that one out should it come to pass....BTW, Temple sure looks to be gearing up to exit the MAC. They came into the MAC friendless and unwanted...they may leave with a great TV package...the Philly and environs market is pretty large. _________________ Miami University---4 years that changed my life for the better. |

I really do fail to see how CUSA/MWC merger at this point benefits Temple. CUSA has lost most of its better teams and other than Marshall and ECU there are no teams even remotely close to Temple in this merger conference. Not that MAC teams are much closer, so maybe there really isnt a signficant increase in travel costs. _________________ "The Blues had a baby and they named it Rock and Roll!!"

Then leggo.
Our hockey team starts playing in the west in 2013.
Why not blow up the travel budget and make it happen? |

No kidding. I'm tired of Temple winning the MACC year after year.

I can't imagine Temple coming back to Millett for a basketball game. Their last trip in 2000 was a disaster for them. They'll pay us and we'll be thankful. |

I just want to hear our name rumored so I'm going to half-heartedly pitch this:
CUSA Remains:
UA Birmingham- Our new rival! Less than 500 miles away! Just like OU, their grads don't get jobs.
Southern Miss- Less than 750 miles away! They finished the CFB season ranked.
Tulane- New Orleans!
East Carolina- You gotta respect any school with the cajones to select purple as one of their colors - and their stadium seats 50,000!
Marshall- Rivalry renewed - plus I heard they installed hurricane proof windows in their coaches box. Someone's gotta test those out!
Rice- A smaller version of Miami located in Houston. $4.5 BILLION endowment
UTEP-The Miners boast a 52,000 seat football stadium and a NCAA Men's Basketball National Championship
Tulsa- They know a little about insensitive nicknames and mascots
Great trips to warm weather. Continuation of being the smartest school in the conference. Football recruits.
Signed. Sealed. Delivered.
CUSA, I'm yours. |

| I'm surprised BEast didn't grab ECU. That's a solid program there with good location. |

And we beat them in Temple the year before that. As part of their deal with the MAC, Temple has to play 4 basketball games against MAC teams every year, two home and two away. UMass will have the same requirement starting next season. So Temple will be showing up here every 6 years if they stay in the MAC. So will UMass. And once every 6 years we will play at Temple and at UMass. _________________ Miami University...17 NCAA tournament appearances...4 Sweet 16's. |

Unless Temple leaves, in which case we (meaning the MAC) can boot UMass. Right?
I actually like having a home-and-home basketball setup with Temple. The win Dick mentioned is probably in the top 3 or so best non-conference wins in the last 5 years. However, without the contractual obligation, I doubt Temple would come to Millett willingly. _________________ Most Livable City... |

Especially if they take UMass with them. I wish the conference would return to its roots, and ditch the weeknight games. I enjoy weekend roadtrips to places like K-Zoo(Bells Brewery),and the frozen tundra of Mount Pleasant (Mountain Station Brewery). If it's an afternon game, Muncie and Bowling Green are an easy up-and-back drive on a Saturday afternoon. _________________ "It's a dog eat dog world and I'm wearing Milkbone underwear" - Norm Peterson |

Didn't the BEast approach Army already? I thought Army was emphatic about staying independent. |

Army fits into the Patriot League in their other sports, and that's based on regional alignment. UMass is staying in the MAC until a better offer comes along. The MAC is a "practice girl" for football independents and teams who've been kicked out of major conferences for being horrible. They enter, knowing they'll be there until they get their game on. _________________

They and Navy have turned down the MAC a couple of times previously; Army did not have a good experience in their few years in CUSA. Maybe times have changed, though, with Navy and Air Force both in conferences. _________________ Miami University...17 NCAA tournament appearances...4 Sweet 16's. |

We should either let UMass go or bring them in all-sports with Old Dominion
With the A-10's best team gone, UMass should be OK with this. If they are not, then just let them go and get back to 12 all-sports teams. The football-only teams cause conflicts sometimes I think. _________________ THOSE WHO STAY WILL BE CHAMPIONS! |

| Congratulations to Temple. Maybe Brad can get some lessons on pro-activeness from Temple's AD. Just goes to show what a school can do if it sets its mind to achieving a goal. Wish Miami was like that. |

The difference between Temple and Miami on this score is that there's a whole lot of people people who, while they might not be opposed to leaving, are perfectly happy staying in the MAC with the same teams Miami has been playing for years. Temple, on the other hand, came in from day one knowing the MAC would be temporary.
Which I guess is a roundabout way of saying Temple had the goal of getting out of the MAC from day one, but it's not even clear that's actually a goal for Miami in the first place, making it hard to work toward that goal. _________________ "Psycho was low on talent.
