| Quote: | 5 Players to watch for in 2010:
Treavon Jackson/2011/6′3/WG/Westerville South – one of the toughest competitors in the state of Ohio, let alone the country, already holds an offer from Arizona State…son of Jimmy.
Geron Johnson/2010/6′4/CG/Dayton Dunbar – a sleeper in the southwest pocket of Ohio, Johnson could be the most talented prospect in the State of Ohio, as this sleeper could be Prep or Juco bound.
Trey Burke/2011/6′/PG/Columbus Northland – developing into one of the best pure points in the mid-west, held Corey Joseph of Findlay Prep to 8 points on ESPN. Will have another test when Northland plays Oak Hill Academy.
Nyles Evans/2011/6′1/G/North Canton Hoover – missed the first 4 games of action, but is one of the Top 5 guards in Ohio’s 2011 class. Could emerge as a household name by March if he stays on board.
Jakarr Sampson/2011/6′8/F/Akron SVSM- Sampson has been productive and keeps getting better in each game we have seen. The Junior Forward posted 19 points and 18 rebounds in a loss to Lakewood St. Eds. |

=>Dunbar rolls:
| Quote: | “That’s our best game, where you move fast but you’re still in control,” said Dunbar guard Geron Johnson, who led all scorers with 22 points.
Bass added 12 points for Dunbar, and guards Darnell Tubbs (20) and DaWuan Thomas (13) combined for 33 points for Trotwood. Rams sophomore Andre Yates made 9-of-10 free throws as part of 15 points. |

=>Gainey and Geron Johnson profiled:
| Quote: | Geron Johnson | 6-3 | SG | Dayton Dunbar (OH) | 2010
In the biggest upset of the entire tournament, Johnson led his Dayton Dunbar squad past ESPN’s No. 14 team in the country, Whitney Young. He brought the house down with a number of his ridic dunks, including a Bron-esque male chicken back and another nasty oop (to go along with the monster windmill that he narrowly missed). The latest product from Daequan Cook’s old HS fell under the national radar a bit after playing with a local AAU team, but is a sleeper no more. Geron showed off his flair for the dramatic with his slick passes with either hand and emphatic blocks. There’s definitely potential for him to be a combo guard down the road, as long as he continues to improve upon his handle and jumper. Academic issues may force Johnson to deter D-1 for a bit at the prep or JUCO route, but dude has high major potential down the road.
Greg Gainey | 6-5 | PF | Dayton Thurgood Marshall (OH) | 2010
Even though he’s the size of a high-major shooting guard, Gainey had no problem going at it with Luke Cothron to the tune of 18 points and 10 rebounds. With a condor-esque wingspan and bigtime hops, Gainey was able to change the game on the defensive end while also throwing down a few powerful dunks. The senior still needs to improve upon his skill set and post moves, but there’s no denying that this undersized warrior is going to make some mid-major coach very happy. |

=>Johnson beats Gainey:
| Quote: | Sunday, February 14, 2010
Dunbar Too Much for Marshall
Dayton Dunbar (15-1) knocked off Dayton Thurgood Marshall for the second time this year with a 74-58 victory on the same day the Wolverines locked up the No.1 seed in the D-2 Southwest District.
Geron Johnson led Dunbar with 23 points while backcourt mate Deon Stewart added 18. In all, 10 Wolverine players cracked the scoring column.
The Cougars (13-4) received 18 points from Tremayne Scott, 16 from Greg Gainey, and 10 by Jordan Watson. |

=>Named MVP of the Division II state tourney as he lead Dunbar to the state title.

The 6-foot-3 senior made just two field goals, but converted 10-of-12 at the free-throw line. Johnson was tremendous in the championship game with 24 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and four steals. He also played relentless on-the-ball defense.

I read somewhere that Johnson is a likely candidate to go to Junior College to work on his grades. He is certainaly talented enough to play at a high level. _________________ Miami University...17 NCAA tournament appearances...4 Sweet 16's. |

=>Eval:
| Code: | | Geron Johnson, 6’3, SG, Dayton Dunbar, 2010- Johnson exploded on the scene nationally after his monster performance at Flyin’ To The Hoop in Dayton, and continued that play to a ring at the state tourney. The athletic dynamo brought his A game to Columbus, putting the clamps on people defensively, getting to the basket, and converting on a number of power dunks in the open floor. It’s looking like that Geron will have to head to the prep school ranks to sure up his academic situation, but is definitely a guy to pay attention to once he reclassifies. |

When you recruit a player from Dayton Dunbar, history shows that they are talented but very high risk. The last 3 times we signed a guy from Dunbar, they did not make it through to graduation. Tutu Brown played 2 years, got in trouble and ended his career at Nevada Reno. Kenneth Bozeman played 2 years, got in trouble and dropped out. Anderson (forgot his first name) signed with us but did not make grades at Sinclair and never was able to enroll at Miami...Gary Waters at Cleveland State has done well, getting Norris Cole (Miami Heat) and his current starting center Aaron Pogue both from Dunbar. Ohio State also had a guy who played one year and is now with Oklahoma City in the NBA. Josh Benson (currently out for the year with an injury) has been a solid player for UD. These guys are ubertalented but a big gamble. _________________ Miami University...17 NCAA tournament appearances...4 Sweet 16's. |
