The original definition of travel partner has been lost.
A true travel partner is 2 schools located in the same city or nearby so that a team could be sent on the road for 2 days at the same local to reduce costs.
That definition morphed over the last decade to the idea that two schools were in bussable distance. Today travel partner means nothing more than "rival" for the other team. _________________ Miami University vs. NCAA (2007) Landmark decision which allowed schools with a 6-7 records who lost a conference championship game eligible for a bowl game if and only if there are no other 7 win teams available. |

NAVY won't join Big East....For Now
| Quote: | | Athletic director Chet Gladchuk told The Capital this morning that Navy will not join the Big East Conference as a football-only member until at least 2015. |

Interesting article because it talks about the Poinsettia and Military Bowls going with the Big East in the event that Navy comes on board. I had always hoped for a MAC tie-in with the Military but now its looking less likely for the future.
The way its looking at the non-AQ level is that CUSA and the MWC will merge conferences with at most one addition. This will leave the WAC and SBC for the most part intact. The WAC situation is particularly interesting because they've had the long standing goal of trying to get to 12 basketball members.
I: Seattle, San Jose, Idaho, Boise, Utah State, Denver
II: New Mexico St, UT-San Antonio, UT-Arlington, La Tech, TX State
The WAC has 6 schools in the NW corridor for a nice division. I wonder if the WAC could court UL-Lafayette with success as a 12th school if CUSA raids the SBC for another team. The WAC has funky travel but the academics and brand name might be worth it. UL would also separate itself from UL-Monroe by making the move. _________________ Miami University vs. NCAA (2007) Landmark decision which allowed schools with a 6-7 records who lost a conference championship game eligible for a bowl game if and only if there are no other 7 win teams available. |

With the Big East planning to take the Military and Poinsettia Bowls with Navy and SDSU the MAC should be looking at trying to strike a bowl arrangement with BYU and Army for some additional bowl games and a partial scheduling agreement of 4 football games.
The MAC bowls are like this right now:
LCB #1/#2
Mobile #1/#2
Boise #3
The MAC signs the Hawaii Bowl (vs. Hawaii), Independence Bowl vs. ACC and St. Pete (vs. Big East). Then with the GMAC you put together a rotation for all 4 bowls to rotate between BYU, Army and the MAC.
Hawaii (Army, BYU, MAC #1, MAC #2)
Independence (BYU, MAC #1, MAC #2, Army)
Mobile (MAC #1, MAC #2, Army, BYU)
St. Pete (MAC #2, Army, BYU, MAC#1)
For this arrangement in years where Army and BYU cannot fulfill their agreements the MAC could then supply a back up team. The LCB could remain on as the #3 pick with the idea both championship game participants would have the top bowls.
For the partial schedules Army would play Temple, UMass, Buffalo and Ohio every year while BYU would square off against NIU, Toledo, Ball State, Western Michigan. This would set up some good ESPN home dates with BYU as a common TV partner. _________________ Miami University vs. NCAA (2007) Landmark decision which allowed schools with a 6-7 records who lost a conference championship game eligible for a bowl game if and only if there are no other 7 win teams available. |

Their schedule will be really locked in. 8 league games plus Army, Air Force, and Notre Dame every year leaves one opening. This is somewhat disappointing because Navy is probably the one school that we have never played that I would most like to have a home and home with. _________________ Miami University...17 NCAA tournament appearances...4 Sweet 16's. |

And we have an opening since we don't have that pesky Missouri game on the schedule anymore. Maybe we can schedule a 2-for-1 over the next three years, play two years in a row at Navy, and then Navy can back out in the last year before the head to the BE. Let's make it happen! |

According to the CUSA message boards, they don't think the MWC is interesting in building the Alliance Conference anymore due to the fact that CUSA has lost 4 of their top 5 FB/BB programs.
Let's have this conversation, regardless - what would it take for you to want Miami to join CUSA?
-Bringing Temple?
-Adding a few of the MWC teams? |

CUSA is a step down in competition. There is nothing left there to care about anymore. I still would have Marsahall back in the MAC because the rivalry was fun, in retrospect. _________________ I don't read literature. I read literary criticism. |

ESPN's Andy Katz reports that | Quote: | | Conference USA's board of directors will meet later this week to discuss the possibility of a full-scale merger with the Mountain West Conference, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. |
| Quote: | On Wednesday, Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowsky said he's not expecting to lose any more schools to the Big East.
"Based upon my conversations with commissioner (John) Marinatto, the Big East has now completed its future membership plan. If this is true, it is very helpful as we can now move forward with our plans in a more stable national environment," he said. "We hope that the other conferences appreciate the value of stability in intercollegiate athletics and higher education." |
