You want another running back? Check.

Spencer McInnis, a 5'11 185lb running back from Orchard Lake, Michigan. Same high school as the Semmes currently on the team.

High school team runs the wishbone and uses Spencer's 4.5 speed as the main ball carrier. He won the Div 3 state title in Michigan this year - racking up 215 yards and 3 touchdowns in the title game.

A little under the radar to Scout and Rivals, Spencer was All State and joined some of the nation's top recruits in the Offense-Defense All American Bowl.

His father, the CEO of Fathead and longtime colleague of Quicken Loans founder/Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, played at EMU and many colleges backed off of Spencer, assuming he'd be an Eagle.

Awesome! Welcome aboard Spencer!

This makes me feel better about the Hundley situation. Kid runs hard and has enough speed to take it the distance when he reaches the open field. Not sure if he'll be physically ready to play as early as a guy like Westbrook so I could see the coaches trying to redshirt. Either way, its just good to have another body at the RB position.

BTW: Oregon has Nike, Maryland has Under Armour, Miami has... Fathead? I expect to see Follets and Dubois stocked with some sweet Miami Fatheads come next fall. Smile

I wonder if people asked that when Toby Gerhart and Danny Woodhead committed to their colleges.

No, he's not a walk-on.

Maybe the question is asked because people 'expected that he'd be an Eagle'. Or because some thought we were out of schollies.

Seems like one keeps popping up.

Gerhart was a 3-star prospect with multiple BCS offers. So, no I don't think people asked that about him. Woodhead seems like a little better comparison.

Probably has to get a little bigger/stronger to contribute at FB or RB but I love what I saw in his special teams contributions.

We are always looking for good PR/KR specialists.

I think this commit has been known for a few days or so, before Lewis committed to EMU

Hmm, so now I'm wondering what kind of impact this might have had on Lewis. Already having two RB's in the fold might have made that decision to go to EMU much easier.

Danny Woodhead went to a Division II school that barely hands out scholarships. I think it's safe to wonder if he was a walk-on; nearly everyone else on his team was. (In fact, I think he was the only full-scholarship athlete in the history of the school.)

He seems like he's already Miami's best kick returner. Love how he just takes up the gut with some speed.

You know what I liked best about that video? That is one well-coached team. Take a look at how crisp those plays are run. I especially like to see the OL staying with their blocks and continuing their blocks down field. That kind of attention to detail is hard to develop once they get to college. This kid has already been a product of that kind of environment, so he should be a quick study.

I would have liked to have seen him run some plays out of single back formation. Liked the runs between the tackles. Also very impressed with his kick returns....straight upfield, no messing around. Of concern: He tends to want to break to the outside. That may, or may not, be there in college. I don't know what kind of football speed the young man has. In some clips he looked real fast. In others, not so much.

While it is an example of him bouncing outside, the first play shows his breakaway speed. Watch the time from 30 yard line to 30 yard line - even though he's already taken a few hits on the play, he runs those 40 yards in about 4 and a half seconds.

This program is perennially one of the best in Michigan. They have won numerous state titles over the years and consistently produce mid to high D1 talent. It's great to see us get another generation of players from OLSM with the Semmes brothers currently starting for us. Also, the demographics of their student population and emphasis on academics is perfect for Miami.

http://opdullacksprospects.blogspot.com/2012/01/pair-of-oc-running-backs-heading-to-mac.html

Quote:
In the Division 3 state title game, McInnis had what might have been his best game of his high school career as he carried the ball 23 times for 213 yards and found the end zone three times in the Eaglets’ 45-7 drubbing of Mount Pleasant. It’s possible that with his performance in his final game solidified his chances of landing at the D-1 level. Make no mistake though, McInnis isn’t a one-dimensional running back, he has plenty of speed which, combined with his power, should separate him from the rest at Miami (OH).
