What are the "needed" ACT and SAT scores and typical GPA to get accepted to Miami these days? _________________ And the days that I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations

I want to say the minimum ACT score when I was applying (2002) was something like a 21, but the average was around 25. I could be wrong, though. _________________ "Why don't we schedule challenging, but not demoralizing?" Mr. 65 to RH65 during Duke game (11/16/10) / JohnnyMac in the NCST game thread (11/9/12) |

You're wrong. Miami's ACT score threshold has never been below 25. 25 is normally the "magic number" but I think it's gone up. Of course if you're applying from out of state and are willing to pay the out of state tuition, then 21 is awesome! _________________

Hm. I thought the threshold was lower; but good luck getting accepted with the minimum. |

There is no minimum ACT or GPA (officially). Average is around a 25 or 26 I believe.
The company line is that Miami has a "holistic approach" to admissions and no one number is more important than another.

For most public schools, isn't it easier to get in from in state than out of state? No idea if that applies to Miami, but I know it generally does at places like IU, Purdue, and Michigan.
If you are a decent student at all, you'd expect to get into Purdue (or IU) if you are from Indiana, but I know out of state its quite a competitive choice for engineers. |

Yeah, I think Ohio schools fall over themselves to get out-of-state students. _________________ Follow the MAC Report Online and J. Scott Fitzwater Twitter feeds. |

I think that holds true for most of the B10 schools. A kid in my dorm freshman year at Miami would have killed to go to Wisconsin, but didn't get in, but if he went to my HS in WI, knowing the credentials he had, he would have had absolutely no problem. My sister saw a similar situation when she went to Iowa for a year. _________________ http://velvetblazer.blogspot.com |

| I got a 24 on my ACT. Had a 3.7 gpa on a scale that only offers 4.0 for 99-100. Would have had well over a 4.0 on a college style grading scale with a limited selection of weighted classes. Finished 12th or 13th out of 130 kids in my graduating class. Had a lot of extracurriculars. Got accepted to every school I applied to, all of which have the same academic reputation as Miami. |

Does anybody know if the average ACT score nationwide has risen over the years? In other words, would a score of 24 five years ago translate into something like a 26 or 27 this year?

ACT - 26
GPA - 3.65
12th out of 104 in my high school class
I think we (redhawk11 and I) are pretty typical of the middle 50% of any incoming freshman class at Miami. We - the middle 50% - weren't valedictorians or salutatorians of our high school classes. We weren't in the top 5%. We were in the 5+% to 15% range with GPAs of 3.5 to 3.8 and ACT scores of 22 to 28. |

I graduated with a weighted 3.5 and I was probably in the 180-200 range out of 415 kids in my graduated class. But being out of state, I am pretty sure I only got into Miami cause I had a 32 on my ACT. The other 3 kids from my graduating class in HS that attended Miami with me all were safely above me in class rank. _________________ http://velvetblazer.blogspot.com |

Well, my high school isn't exactly known for churning out Rhodes Scholars and MENSA members. |

According to that website, 2010 produced the worst scores in recent history.
Go back 18 years and boom it's 1992 - the beginning of the Clinton Administration. Did the election results spur pregnant women to drown their sorrows for H.W. Bush or celebrating drunkenly for Bill? I don't know. All I do know, however, is that 2010 was the bobkittens biggest freshman class.
Coincidence? I think not. |

I was high school graduating class of 2004 only one state over in Indiana and didn't known many people at all who took the ACT.
It seems it is really popular in Ohio, though. |

I took both, liked the SAT more. I also think the SAT is a better prep for later admission testing like the GRE/GMAT _________________ http://velvetblazer.blogspot.com |

I liked the ACT much more as both a test taker and a teacher because there is an English and Science section. _________________ Season ticket holder football and hockey since 1995
