Four more statues will be unveiled Saturday in the Cradle of Coaches Plaza. That's great! But...
Why did we choose to immortalize these coaches in the logos/words of the universities they left us for instead of Miami? Why will Parseghian's statue have a Notre Dame sweatshirt instead of a Miami one?
Anyone else bothered by this? They were coaches at Miami after all. |

I shudder at the thought of something essentially championing ND's success on our campus, Miami connection or not. _________________ http://velvetblazer.blogspot.com |

Given that it's the Cradle of Coaches, shouldn't we feature the coaches at the start of their coaching fame? |

Feeling like I am taking Andy Rooney's place in life today, I am not happy that each coach does not have a Miami shirt, coat or hat on. I think there "claim to fame" should certainly be listed on a very prominent place on a very visible plaque. I don't even like our students wearing other schools (read OSU) apparel to games. I certainly want to celebrate these outstanding coaches as "Miami Men". _________________ Love, honor and run the ball well |

I hate this. I hate the lack of a scalp song. I hate the banning of student signs. I hate the stupid bird noise. I hate every decision ever made by this athetlic department/marketing.

I totally agree with the comments above- should we have BR's #7 in black and gold?
How can you ask your students and alumni to support Miami- when you have plaques saying there is better FB at ND, Michigan, Yale and whatever.
When Charlie Coles number is retired will it be in Central Michigan colors? _________________ Now let's go get our damn trophy |

Who gave the money for the statues? Did the donor have artistic control? _________________ And the days that I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations

Yes. I noticed that last Saturday.
I think some enterprising Hawktalkers should put a Miami hat on each statue each and every game day. _________________ Love and honor. |

Really, if there is no possible damage to the statues, that would be a cool tradition--I vote yes. Of course you may find some who would be against it. _________________ Love, honor and run the ball well |

Ha! You and your silly thoughts of democracy!
(But yes, probably someone would complain, and then the MUPD would arrest people who put hats on the statutes.) _________________ "Psycho was low on talent. Psycho was low on athleticism. Psycho can play on my team any day. Psycho has the biggest heart of any player I have seen."

What for littering? That's not damage...
Now spray painting a red block M on the chest of the statues would be better...but yes one would be arrested for this. _________________ Love and Honor |

Disorderly conduct or something. It's not like it's hard for motivated police to make some BS charge stick. _________________ "Psycho was low on talent. Psycho was low on athleticism. Psycho can play on my team any day. Psycho has the biggest heart of any player I have seen."

| I remember a few years ago when the mural behind the scoreboard (that says Cradle of Coaches) was changed, B2 said he wanted to do it because the old one featured the coaches while they were at other schools. So they changed it so it featured the coaches shown while at Miami.. but now the statues seem to be going backward... |

How old are the men when statued? If the statue is based on a photo of Schembechler at an age when he was at Michigan, thenI can see why he has Michigan gear.
If the statues are of them at a younger age, when they were at Miami, they should be in Miami gear.
I have not seen the statues...I've gone only to Miami road games the last few years, it seems. |

I don't care...make the statues appropriate for the time they were at Miami. _________________ Love and Honor |

I disagree with all of you. If you have statues of these men in their Miami years nobody would recognize them. They are represented in their coaching prime. I think it is a compliment to Miami that so many great coaches started here and went on to gain national recognition at other schools.
Nine out of 10 people on the street would identify Bo as being a Michigan coach. It's where he became famous. The same for the rest of them; Earl Blaik is known as the legendary Army coach, not for anything he did at Miami.
I don't see an issue here. If anything it shows visitors that these men that they only identified with Michigan or Army or the Cleveland Browns all started here. |
