| Always helps to get these guys on campus. Oxford is possibly our biggest weapon when it comes to recruiting. |

I think Callen is the type of OL we need. Big, can put on some more weight/muscle, and has offers from a lot of other MAC schools. _________________ "Statistics are for losers. The only numbers that matter are the final score."

| Wow, per a scout.com article we weren't in his top 3 as of October 20th. Wonder what happened between then and now to change his mind. |

ESPN evaluation from July 2011:
| Quote: | | Callen plays both offensive tackle and defensive end demonstrating good production. We feel his size and athleticism are best suited for the offensive guard position at the major level of competition. This is a prospect who runs well but will need to add bulk to his frame over time; it appears his frame is capable of handling the additional weight over time. Is effective on defense; flashes the ability to keep his feet free and shed down the line in pursuit of the football; at his present level he can overpower pass blockers with his size. We see good hip and ankle flexibility playing out of a three point stance; when run blocking he comes off the ball aggressively but his pad level is too high on contact. Must become more explosive when drive blocking; needs to improve his upper body playing strength and develope a more consistent and nasty approach when finishing blocks. Demonstrates good initial quickness when asked to pull and trap; stays tight to the line and is capable of locatiing defenders on the move. Is quick releasing to linebackers while demonstrating he can gain leverage on offset down lineman; flashes the ability to get a hat on active 1st and 2nd level defenders. With added bulk and improved playing strength this lineman should be able to make all the run blocks at the next level. His long arms and nimble feet should be assets in pass protection however all aspects of footwork and hand use will need refinement. Callen is a boarderline BCS prospect with the size potential worth keeping an eye on as his upcoming season progresses. Time and a red shirt year will be necessary to grow physically while polishing his technical skills. |

Callen was waiting for Miami, which is always great to see.
The hold up on an offer? The staff wanted to see him against 5 star Penn State DT commit Tommy Schutt toward the end of the season. Evidently he earned it that night.

For some reason I think Callen will be a special guy for us. Kind of under the radar (Rivals has 3* though), but not getting a lot of love here on hawktalk yet _________________ "Statistics are for losers. The only numbers that matter are the final score."
