=>Ballentine leads Kokomo to the Semi-State finals (Indiana name for the state semifinals).
| Quote: | Marion
This site hosted what was probably the most entertaining Final, played by Kokomo and Pendleton Heights. Kokomo came away with the title, pulling out a double overtime victory, 58-55. However, Junior Guard Kellen Dunham of Heights stole the show in a losing effort. The Butler recruit went for 29 points in the final and had 41, including 6 3's and 17-17 free throws in their morning win over Fort Wayne Northrop. Junior D.J. Ballentine scored 16 in the championship game to lead Kokomo. |

With its first 20-win season in 14 years secured as it enters the Class 4A Marion Regional on Saturday, the Kokomo High School boys basketball team is invoking memories of the good ol' days.
That is what Kokomo coach Brian McCauley had in mind when he took the job five years ago. He is a 1996 Kokomo grad, and several players have fathers or uncles who played for the Wildkats.
"Kokomo basketball means a lot to our players because of that," said McCauley, whose 20-2 team will play Jay County at 10 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals. "I think there's an understanding with this team of what Kokomo basketball means."
Junior D.J. Balentine is the team's leading scorer, averaging 16.4 points; his father, Dennis, was a junior on the 1991-92 team that won a regional championship. Brad Sebree is the father of sophomore and second-leading scorer LaBradford Sebree (8.7 ppg, 4.7 rebounds) and was a junior on the state runner-up team in '89.
"Those are guys that I looked up to in the sixth, seventh, eighth grades," McCauley said. "Those names still have a lot of meaning around here."
This year's team is looking to leave its mark on a program that hasn't won a regional since winning three in a row from 1995-97. D.J. Balentine, a 6-2 guard, is shooting 39 percent from the 3-point line and averaging a team-high 4.0 assists.
"He draws a lot of double teams and that opens up a lot of opportunities for other guys," McCauley said of Balentine, who has a scholarship offer from IPFW and strong interest from Ball State and Valparaiso, among others. "He's very smooth and never in a hurry."
Seniors Huston Clark (8.7 ppg, 6.8 rebounds) and Cheyse Swain (6.9 ppg) and junior Armon Bridgeforth (6.6 ppg, 2.7 steals) have been key contributors. A name to watch for in the future is Tayler Persons, a 6-0 guard averaging 7.1 points.
With a win, Kokomo would play either Pendleton Heights or Fort Wayne Northrop on Saturday night.

DJ choses Evansville over offers from Miami, Indiana State, Kent, Loyola, Missouri State and Wright State. The finalists were: Indiana State and Missouri State.
Says D.J.: | Quote: | | “I am going to continue my basketball career at the University of Evansville. They have an 140 million dollar arena and it is nice. It is top of the line everything. I really like it there.” |

So far we have yet to land any of our priority targets for 2012. Losing them all to other mid majors. I believe that says something. _________________ "The Blues had a baby and they named it Rock and Roll!!"
