i wonder if DanRedHawk attended the game and can give a personal update.

In the first ever night game at the Husky softball stadium, the RedHawks played tough but fell 3-0 to the defending national champion Huskies and reigning National Player of the Year, pitcher Danielle Lawrie. The RedHawks didn't have hits or base runners but got strong pitching from Simpson.

But Miami pitcher Jessica Simpson was tough on the Husky hitters, holding them scoreless over the next four innings, allowing just a single to Wright and a double to Stuart in the stretch.

Sounds like we had a great effort against them. I think we get a rematch

good pitching effort...we didnt get a hit, or have one baserunner...i know she is the best player in the country...but hard to say good effort...

that sounds harsh...what i mean is i dont think a second chance will do anything for us...we probably wont get on base again...they are #1 for a reason, pitching. softball all you need is one, maybe two unbelievable pitchers for the year and you are set...the girls can pitch so many games in one season

how can you say that it wasn't a good effort because they didn't get a hit or have a baserunner off the National Player of the Year who herself is 13-0, or the 18-1 Defending National Champions?

I did not make it down today and, unfortunately, wont be able to make it tomorrow. I was really hoping to see both Miami and Portland State play tomorrow, but it isn't going to work out...

Since I wasn't there, I can't say whether or not it was a good Miami effort - but I certainly wouldn't say it was a poor effort based on the result. Lawrie is otherworldly - not just the best college softball player, but THE BEST current college athlete in my opinion.

I just looked at her statistics and I am shocked she ONLY has a 1.17 ERA and a .125 opponent's batting average. She averages two strikeouts an inning and this is her second perfect game of the season. FYI, she's also hitting .377 with nine home runs and 27 RBI. Home opener, first night-game in program history and Lawrie in the circle - the definition of walking into the hornet's nest...

I'm sure they'd like another shot at Lawrie tomorrow and hopefully they'll get it. Still, Washington is very beatable when Lawrie does not pitch. Bailey Harris is 5-1 with good numbers, but believe me she is very hittable...

Also, interesting to see what happens in the Portland State game - they'll certainly be well prepared for Miami as their top assistant Kellyn Tate spent the last three seasons in Oxford...

Do we not assume that all Miami athletes give a "good effort" each time they compete, whether they succeed or not?
