what a horrible tragedy for both victims, and for Brendan who had so bravely faced the public this past year. Deepest sympathies to the Burke family. RIP Brendan.

Wow, having known Brendan since his freshman year, this is very tough...great kid, stood up for himself and others like him, a true pioneer. RIP buddy

I've added a post about Brendan to the MHT front page. As more details come in -- e.g., memorial services, etc. -- please let me (or RedSteve or mattsledge or laxmom or someone else with edit rights to the front page) know, and we'll update the post accordingly.

I don't know what to say other than I offer my condolences to Brendan's family and friends.

I never got a chance to meet Brendan, but still he was such an inspiration. I remember when I first read the ESPN article about him, I sent it to just about everyone I know because he was just the perfect example of a Miami man, a member of a Brotherhood that had become the face of Miami athletics.

I'm at a loss for words, really. My thoughts are with the Burke family.

I've typed, and retyped, what I'd like to post here, but I can't find the right words.

I'll just say that I'm saddened by the loss of a member of the Brotherhood, a Miamian, and an inspirational young man.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are saddened to report that Brendan Burke, the youngest son of Leafs President and General Manager Brian Burke, succumbed to injuries he suffered in an auto accident earlier today in Indiana.

The family asks for privacy at this difficult time.

Thank you.

Shocking and sad. I'm wondering what will take place at this evening's game - maybe a moment of silence, etc. Certainly a difficult, emotional time for the team and others close to Brendan.
