=>From Dunbar in Dayton, same high school as Mark Anderson, Daquan Cook, Aaron Pogue, and Josh Benson.

DDN story from last month:

Working his way up to 'big-time player' status

Quote:
He's explosive to the basket, has long-ball range with a smooth shot and is increasingly growing into his leadership role.

I was at the Aiken/Dunbar game Saturday night and can attest to the above description.

he is a combo guard that has a very nice handle and can not only drive and dish but can create his own shot. If his academics are in order he's going to have a lot of offers.

Miami and Dayton coaches in the stands this past Saturday watching him.

Johnson had 15 points as Dunbar beat Juwan Staten's Marshall team (that also features Miami target Greg Gainey)

The DDN reports today that Geron Johnson was arrested on Felony Attempted Burglary. He is 16, on electronic home confinement and will face his charges in Juvenile court.

That could very well spell the end of any Miami interest...it's definitely the end of mine.

=>Interviewed Geron Johnson last night. Look for a story soon on him. He is very embarrassed about what happened to him and expressed serious interest in posting this serious mistake past him.

Geron is a stud, and I would love to see him at Miami. He is a kid and made a mistake, no big deal. If we could get him, it would be HUGE!

Interesting that he's still a Miami target after all that has been said here about troubled recruits at other schools.
He must be REALLY good!

That is the only kind of shaky recruit worth the risk. A program of good students and good kids can take on a shaky recruit and with no "bad apples" to join up with, usually the kid will turn out very well. Programs run into trouble when they start gitting 3 or 4 of these kinds of kids. Unless the coach is a really, really strong personality (Chuggy Bear, Knight, Christian?) it usually does not work.

=>New Ohio 2010 Rankings are out:

Quote:
Beyond the top 10, a few players shot up in the rankings. Rob Brandenberg had a very impressive summer, and jumped way up. He parlayed that into a commitment to Virginia Commonwealth. Also making a big jump is John Harris. Harris was under the radar during the high school season, and at 6-foot-7 he can really shoot the ball from deep to go along with being a solid athlete.

What makes this class pretty good is the depth from 15-30. The mid-major schools in the Midwest have been all over these players, and many of them have a chance to make a big impact on games from the moment they step on campus.

Overall as usual Ohio State did an excellent job in-state landing four of the top seven prospects, including Sullinger and Sibert. Dayton also did well to land two of the top 15 players. Miami-Ohio, Kent State, and Bowling Green all also managed to lock down multiple players in the top 30.

http://www.xavier.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=982208

******

Rankings:

Quote:
1 Jared Sullinger - OSU
2 Adreian Payne - Undecided (Ohio State, UK)
3 Jordan Sibert - OSU
4 Juwan Staten - Dayton
5 Aaron Craft - OSU
6 Griffin McKenzie - Undecided (X, Vandy, NW, Miami Offer)
Cincinnati (OH) Moeller F 6-9/220 list
Not many players McKenzie's size can shoot like he is capable. A big July led to an explosion of offers.

7 J.D. Weatherspoon - OSU
8 Geron Johnson - Undecided (Will go JUCO)
Dayton (OH) Dunbar G 6-3/170 list
He is so talented it is scary. Johnson has a lot of work to do off the court, but on it he is special.

9 Cameron Wright - Pitt
10 Allen Payne - Undecided (UD, Penn St., MAC offers)
11 Rob Brandenberg - VCU
12 Nick Kellogg - Undecided (MAC Offers including Ohio, Had Miami offer too)
Columbus (OH) DeSales G 6-2/ list
Kellogg is very strong, and knows how to get to the rim. His shot is improving, but is caught between positions.

13 Derek Jackson - CMU
14 Ralph Hill - Dayton
15 Kenny Knight - Kent State
16 Anton Hutchins - Undecided (Had interest from Miami)
Lima (OH) Lima Senior G 6-3/175 list
Hutchins is a solid athlete who can shoot the ball on the wing. He is not often mentioned with the best in the class, but his versatility makes him very impressive.

17 John Harris
Twinsburg (OH) Twinsburg F 6-6/185 Miami-OH
Harris had a big time summer which saw him pick up a lot of mid-major attention.

18 Quentin Rollins
Wilmington (OH) Wilmington G 6-0/ Miami-OH
Rollins is a very heady point guard who really knows how to play the game. He always makes the right pass at the right time.

19 Josh Egner - Akron
20 Mark Henniger - Kent
21 Cameron Black - BUGS
22 AJ Pacher - Wright State
23 D.J. Martinez - Undecided (Attended Miami's Elite Camp)
24 Greg Gainey - Undecided (Claims a Miami Offer)
Dayton (OH) White F 6-5/200 list
Gainey is an excellent athlete who can simply fly. Undersized to play down low, he needs to improve his skill level.

25 Storm Sanders - Undecided
26 Ryan Bass - Undecided (Attended Miami's Elite Camp, Offered by Wright State, Ohio)
Dayton (OH) Chaminade-Julienne G 5-11/169 list
Despite being 5-foot-7, Bass can get his head even with the rim. Also when he is on, he can light up the scoreboard.

27 Craig Sealy - BUGS
28 Storm Stanley - Army
29 Brooke Turson - Undecided (Attended Miami's Elite Camp)
Plymouth (OH) Plymouth F 6-4/185 list
Turson is just a basketball player. Not a great athlete, not super skilled, but just a flat out winner who does anything needed.
30 Jordan Berlin - Undecided (Attended Miami's Elite Camp- Q. Rollins teammate)
Wilmington (OH) Wilmington G 6-3/ list
Berlin is one of the better outside shooters around. Also he plays hard and is a smart player

=>Dunbar's Ryan Bass and Geron Johnson:

Quote:
Tuesday, November 24, 2009
Dayton Dunbar off and running

OHSH was able to get its first look at Dayton Dunbar tonight and the Wolverines own more talent than we orginally thought and we knew they had a lot.

Dunbar was out and running from the opening tip after arriving in Pickerington almost an hour late due to traffic. The Wolverines used a swarming press with its great athleticism and length to run out to a 14-0 lead before winning the first two quarters 50-18.

The backcourt of seniors Geron Johnson (6'3), Ryan Bass (5'9), and Deon Stewart (6'2) was tremendous all night.

Bass drilled eight triples in the six quarters of action. The Dayton Chaminade Julienne transfer also showed off his phenomenal vertical leap with two eye-popping dunks off lob passes. Bass shot it well off the pull-up, with the catch and shoot, and taking it to the bucket.

Johnson is a kid that can do-it-all. He sees the floor very well and uses the bounce pass like an old-school player. The D1 recruit covers a lot of ground on the press and is an excellent on-the-ball defender. He also showed off his hops on several dunks that brought the Pickerington students into a frenzy. Johnson told head coach Peter Pullen on one dunk in particular that he could see the rim when he tossed down a monsterous one-handed jam. Johnson knocked down a few outside shots but looks more comfortable slashing to the bucket.
