Bash, seriously thank you for doing this. It's a big time sacrifice but we all really appreciate your efforts. It is fun to watch the weeks' tally as well.

I merely put numbers into a spreadsheet. Credit goes to those who participate.

As they say "garbage in, garbage out". I realized late today that I used an incorrect multiplier for one of the pledge categories in my spreadsheet (I know, I suck). The bad news is some of the individual pledge totals have decreased slightly. The good news is the challenge still stands above $200 after the first game thanks to pledges made today by limbm, cycloneal, and mualum78.

For the first time in the four-year history of the Red and White Challenge we had a game (today's BG game) earn more than $500.00! To those who are participating this year - a big THANK YOU. We are well on our way to a $3,500 season (12 games, even more with 14 games), but I'm getting greedy. How about some more participants so we can push this thing over $5,000 by the end of the season? 5K is not chump change and that amount of money would do a lot for the Red and White Club.

Am I remembering past years correctly in that total contributions were right around $2,000? If so, to get over $2,000 after only 7 games says a lot about the poster participating as well as the performance of the team.

You are correct sir! In previous years we have topped out at ca. $2,000. Reaching the $2,000 mark this year at game 7 says a lot about those who are participating and pledging this year, because we actually have FEWER people participating. If we could round up a dozen or so more people we'll push this thing over $5K (and it will cost you as little as $30 to $50).

The 2007 football season is over and so ends the 2007 Red and White Challenge. We had a record year going over the $3,000 mark for the first time. In fact we nearly hit $4,000. Oddly enough we did this with the FEWEST participants ever, so those who participated really stepped it up in terms of pledge amounts. Miami needs more fans like you!!

For those who participated now comes the important part - writing a check and mailing it in. Most likely we'll do as we've done in years past and mail our checks to one of our Red and White Club board members who will then turn over the checks in the name of MHT.com to the Red and White Club at one of their winter functions. So stand by for more detailed instructions coming up in the next few weeks. Thanks again!

Bash - a couple questions on this...and forgive me if this will be covered later...

1. When we send in checks, do we need to include where we want this money to go? For example, if we'd prefer it to go to Hockey, or the Scholly fund, or somewhere else specific?

2. I will be submitting this "charitable donation" to my employer, who matches dollar for dollar. Can this be included in the running total?

I encourage all of you to do the same regarding point #2. Most mid- and large-sized companies (and I'm sure some small companies) have some sort of matching contribution program. Check with your local HR Department!

You can if you'd like, though I would encourage everyone to make an unrestricted contribution that way it can go where it is needed most.

Sure, I'll just double your pledge and adjust the total.

Bash,
I will round my donation up to $25.00.

Thanks for all that you have done to run this challenge.

IMPORTANT END OF SEASON INSTRUCTIONS

The 2007 Red and White Challenge has come to an end, but the really important part of the challenge has just started. Remember your pledge is only a pledge until you sign that check and mail it in.

As in the past we will be mailing our checks to RedSteve, who will turn them over to the Red and White Club in the name of MiamiHawkTalk.com. RedSteve's mailing address will be provided to you via a private message through this site. SO CHECK YOUR PMs.

This year we have two deadlines for checks depending on whether you want to take a tax deduction in 2007 or 2008. If you'd like to apply your contribution to your 2007 tax return RedSteve must receive your check by December 22, 2007. Checks will be turned over to the Red and White Club prior to December 31st in order for you to receive a deduction for 2007. If you plan on using your deduction for your 2008 tax return you're deadline is January 18, 2008. These checks will be turned over to the Red and White Club at their winter meeting in early February, so your check will NOT clear for a few weeks after the January 18th deadline.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Checks should be written out to "MIAMI UNIVERSITY". Check the first post in this thread for your pledge amount. On your check's memo line write "MIAMIHAWKTALK.COM - RED AND WHITE CHALLENGE". Make sure your full name and address are printed on your check so that the university can mail you a receipt for tax purposes. Either on your check or on a separate note please include your MHT.COM screen name so RedSteve can identify who is who and match the pledge amounts with real names.

THANKS FOR PARTICIPATING. YOU HAVE MADE THIS CHALLENGE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL ONE YET!

OK - I'll be the one to add $60.49 to my pledge so we hit the $4,000 plateau. Can you add that to my total, Bash?

Andy, I'm sorry but I don't have your name in my records nor can I find it on the pledge thread. Must have gotten my wires crossed somewhere. However, we'll always take a pledge be it $1 or $1,000,000 anytime Very Happy I can easily insert it into the total.
